Date in each semester after which students cannot withdraw from a subject without paying a fee for that subject. The census date is usually the last working day in March and August for first and second semesters respectively.
The Census Date is the date by which tuition fees and student contributions must be paid. The Census date is the date when HECS-HELP and FEE-HELP debts are incurred and Student Learning Entitlement (SLE) is consumed. Eligible students can opt to defer payment of fees via a HELP loan, but applications for deferment of tuition fees or student contributions must be made on or before the census date. Prior to 2005, census dates were set for standard and non-standard teaching sessions. From 2005, census dates may vary on a unit of study level and will be publicised in unit documentation. The University of Canberra has decided that the census dates will be the end of Week 4 for semester-long units and the end of Week 8 for year-long units.
