A single threaded command line approach that often uses little or no visual effects to capture user input. The DOS prompt is probably the most known CLI. CLI is often still used in servers because it is more direct and doesn't require the graphics processing overhead that a GUI has.
A text-based application that can be executed from a command shell such as sh, csh, ksh or the Microsoft Windows CMD shell.
a user interface in which you type commands instead of choosing them from a menu or selecting an icon
a method by which a user interacts with the application
a terminal-type means for sending commands to the shell and entering data into the computer. The command line is indicated by a symbol, or prompt (e.g., , %, $), showing the user where to enter commands. Unlike a graphical user interface, this interface requires that commands be typed in and written in a precise syntax in order for them to be interpreted correctly by the shell.
A text based interface where the user enters commands at a prompt (such as a DOS prompt). The initial user command is interactive, but the interface can be manipulated into a batch processing mode.
A means of communication between a program and its user in which commands are input with a keyboard and are interpreted and executed by the program. Results are output as text or graphics on the computer screen. Compare to Graphical User Interface.
(operating system) A means of communication between a program and its user, based solely on textual input and output. Commands are input with the help of a keyboard or similar device and are interpreted and executed by the program. Results are output as text or graphics to the terminal. Command line interfaces usually provide greater flexibility than graphical user interfaces, at the cost of being harder for the novice to use.
A user interface through which commands can be sent to WEBppliance using a command line rather than the graphical user interface. The Command Line Interface also allows the use of scripts for automating and streamlining many tasks.
A CLI defines the invocation syntax for command line based utilities.
CLI) The set of commands that can be executed directly from the operating system's command shell.
A text-only interface where you type commands to the computer one line at a time.

A type of user interface where commands are specified on the command line. Contrast with graphical user interface.
A software product that allows the user to type in commands at a prompt. Contrast to forms interface.
A command line interface or CLI is a tool for interacting with computers, often using a text terminal. CLIs originated when teletype machines were connected to computers in the 1950s. In terms of immediate interaction and feedback, they represented an advance over the use of punch cards.
