Damo (Korean: 다모/조선 여형사 다모, Hanja: 茶母/朝鮮 女刑事 茶母) is a MBC TV drama series and has been a major part of the Korean Wave both in Asia and throughout the United States. It starred Ha Ji-won, Lee Suh-jin, and Kim Min-joon. Set in Joseon Dynasty Korea, it tells the story of a young slave woman relegated to the low-status job of a policewoman who can investigate the women of the upper class.
Damo (Literally translated as "Tea Lady"), is a class of servents in Joseon Korea that is lower than slaves in their overall rankings in society. Their main responsibility is to serve tea to the gentries.
Damo (c. 535 BC - 475 BC) was the daughter of Pythagoras and Theano. She studied, and later taught, at the Pythagorean School at Croton. When the school closed, Damo sought refuge in Athens, where, with the help of Thymaridas and Philolaus, she published her father's treatises on geometry.
