A network connection from one computer to another made through a permanent and high-speed method such as Ethernet or T-1 connections. Usually leased from a common carrier.
A direct connection links a PC to the Internet via a communication cable, such as an Ethernet line. Many PCs are connected to the Internet over a modem line. A modem connection is not considered a direct connection because a computer user must start an additional process, such as Trumpet Winsock or dial-up networking, before a browser can run.

In simple words, it is the state of being connected with the indwelling spirit (Atman/Self) or inner power of the Real-self and the Supreme Power that sustains the entire universe. Indwelling spirit is an unseen creating energy. When there is nothing or no one in between the person and the indwelling spirit, the connection is said to direct. The direct connection is an art of establshing oneself in one's spirit, performing all one's activities from there and letting the supreme energy look after the results of the individula's efforts. The stronger is our connection, the stronger is the manifestation of all our intentions, desires and goals.

A dedicated, direct connection to the Internet through a LAN, with the computer having its own IP address.
A permanent connection between your computer system and the Internet. This is sometimes referred to as a leased-line connection because the line is leased from the telephone company.
A permanent connection between your computer system to a computer network.
An electrical connection to the Internet that is accomplished with an IP address and a node on the network. With a direct connection, you can take advantage of the full capabilities of the Internet and the World Wide Web.
A permanent communication connection between your computer system (either a single CPU or a LAN) and the Internet. This is also called a leased line connection because you are leasing the telephone connection from the phone company. A direct connection is in contrast to a SLIP/PPP or dial-up connection.
A connection made directly to the Internet, which is obviously much faster than a dialup connection.
A connection from your computer directly to a network; much faster than a dial up connection. Examples: Most office computers in OSU buildings and many computers in dorms wired for ResNet have direct connections.
A connection, such as SLIP or PPP, which makes your computer a live part of the Internet. Also known as full IP access.
A permanent, 24-hour link between a computer and the Internet. A computer with a direct connection can use the Internet at any time. See Chapter 5.
A direct connection to the Internet is a connection that can be kept on constantly, and that does not require you to dial in over a regular telephone line using a modem.
