complex skin structure with epithelial and mesenchymal origins which forms hair. (More? Hair Notes | Skin Notes)
A small depression in our skin that begins in the dermis. Hair grows out of it.
A cluster of epithelial tissue surrounding the root of a hair where the hair originates.
a small tubular cavity containing the root of a hair; small muscles and sebaceous glands are associated with hair follicles
a cavity of cells that forms a "bulb" around the base of the hair in the scalp
an invagination of the epidermis which extends into the dermis
a single depression in your scalp that houses one hair
a small cavity of the skin in which a hair develops
a special adaptation of stratified squamous epithelium
a tiny cup-shaped pit buried deep in the fat of the scalp
a tubular invagination lined by stratified squamous epithelium similar to epidermis with a central lumen that may (or may not) contain a hair shaft
skin structure in which the hair is embedded.
A small pit beneath the surface of the skin from which hair grows.
a depression in the scalp from which hair emerges. Balding occurs when hair follicles are damaged, blocked, or rendered inactive.
a tiny opening in the skin from which a hair grows
The hole in the skin through which a hair grows.
The structural unit of hair production within the skin, containing two major components, the follicular sheath and the hair bulb; two major types exist, simple follicles and compound follicles.
part of a strand of hair that is alive and below the surface of the skin.
a small cup-shaped structure in the skin from which hair grows. The cup is lined with cells and connective tissue.
The depression of the skin containing the root.
The hole in the scalp through which a hair grows.
A shaft or opening on the surface of the skin through which hair grows.
A tiny tube of skin cells that contain the root of the hair shaft
An accessory structure of the integument; a tube lined by a stratified squamous epithelium that begins at the surface of the skin and ends at the hair papilla.
a tubular infolding of the epidermis containing the root of a hair.
The part of the scalp that contains the root of the hair.
a structure in the skin that is the growth center and produces a single hair
A sac from which a hair grows and into which the sebaceous (oil) glands open. The follicle is lined by cells derived from the epidermal (outside) layer of the skin. See the entire definition of Hair follicle
A tube-like opening in the epidermis where the hair shaft develops.
Portion of hair embedded in the epidermis
A hair follicle is part of the skin that grows hair by packing old cells together. Attached to the follicle is a sebaceous gland, a tiny sebum-producing gland found everywhere except on the palms, lips and soles of the feet. The thicker density of hair, the more sebaceous glands are found.
