In cryptography, a pinwheel was a device for producing a short pseudorandom sequence of bits (determined by the machine's initial settings), as a component in a cipher machine. A pinwheel consisted of a rotating wheel with a certain number of positions on its periphery. Each position had a "pin" or "lug" which could be either "set" or "unset".

Pinwheel was a children's television show that aired on the Nickelodeon cable network from 1979 to 1989. The show was the original program featured on the Nickelodeon network (the channel itself was known as "Pinwheel" until 1981). There were a total of 260 one-hour Pinwheel episodes recorded, however, Pinwheel was typically broadcast in 3 to 5 hour long blocks with multiple one-hour episodes shown back-to-back.
Bloom pattern. Also called striped. Describes an African Violet flower which has bi-color rays which emanate from the center of the flower and continue to the edge of the petals. The effect gives the flower a pinwheel appearance. The pinwheel bloom pattern is most often associated with chimeras.
