Part of Distinguished Name. A set of attributes, identifying an entity within a node in the X.500 tree. Eg. Unizeto CERTUM free email certificates have only one thing different - e-mail address. In this case e-mail address is RDN.
The leftmost component in a directory entry's distinguished name (DN). See distinguished name (DN).
The part of an object name that is an attribute of the object itself. For example, given the distinguished name of cn=JamesSmith,ou=Managers,dc=Reskit,dc=com, the relative distinguished name of the JamesSmith user object is cn=James Smith. The relative distinguished name of the parent object is ou=Managers. The relative distinguished name of the domain object is dc=Reskit.
(RDN) An entity included as the subject in a request for a certificate. The elements in an RDN are defined by its attributes and do not need to include a name. With respect to CryptoAPI, an RDN is defined by a CERT_RDN structure, which in turn points to an array of CERT_RDN_ATTR attribute structures. Each attribute structure specifies a single attribute.
Also called RDN. One or more attribute/value pairs stored on an LDAP server that uniquely identify an entry from its sibling in an object tree.
The local, most granular level entry name. It has no other qualifying entry names that would serve to uniquely address the entry. In the example, cn=Smith,o=acme,c=US, the RDN is cn=Smith.
The local, most granular level entry name. It has no other qualifying entry names that would serve to address the entry uniquely. In the example, cn=sales,dc=us,dc=acme,dc=com, cn=sales is the RDN.
A set of Attribute Value Assertions (AVAs), each of which is true, concerning the distinguished values of a particular entry.
The name of an object within its current level in the directory [ http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms869388.aspx ] hierarchy. For example, from its own mailbox, "v-rossl" is the RDN of the v-rossl mailbox object, while its distinguished name (DN) [ http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms869388.aspx ] might be O=Trager /CN=Boston /CN=recipients /CN=v-rossl.
The part of an object's distinguished name that is an attribute of the object itself. For most objects this is the Common Name attribute. For security principals, the default common name is the security principal name, also referred to as the SAM account name. For the distinguished name CN=MyName,CN=Users,DC=Microsoft,DC=Com the relative distinguished name of the MyName user object is CN=MyName. The relative distinguished name of the parent object is CN=Users. See also: object; distinguished name
