A bunch of bytes somewhere in memory (usually at the end) that ANTIC converts into a picture and sends to GTIA or CTIA which puts it on the screen. In other words, this is where the data that is to appear on the screen is stored. In case you don't understand the difference between this and the display list, the display list tells ANTIC how to interpret the screen memory (i.e. where is it, does the data represent characters or pixels, how big are they, etc.).
