Transmission mode that sends data one bit at a time. In most cases, in personal computers, serial data is passed through as RS232 serial interface port.
communications: A way to transfer information in sequence on a single channel, as opposed to in parallel. Usually there is also a return channel.
Method of data transmission in which the bits of a data character are transmitted sequentially over a single channel. Compare with parallel transmission.
