Sociology Subcultures

Generally, the fields of sociology, anthropology, economics, social science, psychology, political science, education, and history are grouped into the broader academic area referred to as the "social sciences." At QVCC, the social sciences requirements for degree programs and certificate programs can be satisfied with courses in these fields.

The social sciences include (but not exclusively) economics, geography, law, management, political science, and sociology. The humanities include, for example, art, philosophy, languages, history, and religion. Psychology is also a social science, but psychological research is not an excluded activity when it is undertaken directly in support of basic research, applied research, or experimental development.

The social sciences are a group of academic disciplines that study human aspects of the world. They diverge from the arts and humanities in that the social sciences tend to emphasize the use of the scientific method in the study of humanity, including quantitative and qualitative methods.
