A lever or projection moved by some other piece, as a cam, or intended to tap or touch something else, with a view to produce change or regulate motion.
Adjustable component to vary the clearance gap between the valve stem and corresponding actuating mechanism. It provides the correct clearance, allowing for wear and thermal expansion.
a lever that is moved in order to tap something else
a device in the valve system that transmits the action of the cam to the valve or the pushrod
an arm , collar or cam within a machine which imparts intermittent motion
A term often used to refer to the component which transmits the rotary camshaft movement to the up-and-down movement required for valve operation.
A pivoting actuator than opens and closes cylinder valves.
sliding rod struck by cam to move another part.
A tappet in mechanical engineering is a projection which imparts a linear motion to some other component within an assembly. Properly speaking, a tappet is only that part of a rocker arm which makes contact with an intake or exhaust valve stem above the cylinder head of an internal combustion engine. As the cam rotates it creates both a sideways and a downward force on the tappet.
