Total Parenteral Nutrition. Nutrition given by IV. Food through the vein. Also called hyperal (hyperalimentation).
see total parenteral nutrition
(total parenteral nutrition) – also known as hyperalimentation is a white, sticky fluid containing nutrients that is given intravenously through a special, central line in the aorta.
a liquid food substitute infused directly into a vein and designed to meet a person's entire nutritional needs.
a solution containing vitamins, minerals, sugar, electrolytes, lipids and proteins to support the patient's nutritional needs. Solutions are given through an I.V. or central venous catheter.
administration of a nutritionally adequate solution through a catheter into the vena cava; used in cases of long-term coma or severe burns or severe gastrointestinal syndromes
Total Parenteral Nutrition. A technique in which nutrients are given to a person through an intravenous infusion.
Total parenteral nutrition. A form of nutrition that is delivered into a vein. TPN does not use the digestive system. It may be given to people who are unable to absorb nutrients through the intestinal tract because of vomiting that won't stop, severe diarrhea, or intestinal disease. It may also be given to those undergoing high-dose chemotherapy or radiation and bone marrow transplantation. It is possible to give all of the protein, calories, vitamins and minerals a person needs using TPN. Also known as hyperalimentation or parenteral nutrition.
Total Parenteral Nutrition. Complete nutrition (including fat, carbohydrate, animo acids, vitamins, minerals, and water) given as an intravenous infusion.
total parental nutrition. see parenteral nutrition.
Total Parenteral Nutrition. Intravenous feeding that provides patients with all essential nutrients when thery're unable to feed themselves. Also called TPN, hyperalimentation or hyperal.
also PPN (Partial Parenteral Nutrition) Parenteral does not mean "by/from the parent(s)"!! par*en*ter*al (adjective): Situated or occurring outside the intestine; esp : introduced otherwise than by way of the intestines (ie, through the veins) In Total Parenteral Nutrition, the patient's nutrients, liquids, etc, are all administered via a tube in a major vein. This may also involve the patient being NPO. In Partial Parenteral Nutrition, the patient's normal food intake is supplemented by a tube in a vein. Total Parenteral Nutrition. children undergoing treatment for cancer sometimes need TPN to help meet their nutritional needs. TPN is a special mixture of glucose, protein, fat, vitamins, and minerals that are given through an intravenous line (IV) into the veins. Many people call this "intravenous feedings."
total parenteral nutrition. intravenous infusion of nutrients through a catheter placed in a large vein (often near the collar bone)
Total Parenteral Nutrition. Used for patients who cannot or should not get their nutrition through eating. TPN may include a combination of sugar and carbohydrates (for energy), proteins (for muscle strength), lipids (fat), electrolytes, and trace elements. An individuals solution may contain all or some of these substances, depending on your condition.
Total Parenteral Nutrition. Liquid nutrition containing protein, sugar, fat, vitamins, and minerals that is given to a baby intravenously.
total parenteral nutrition. A form of liquid nutrition with all necessary vitamins, minerals and calories given through another route other than by eating. TPN provides nutrition to patients who are unable or unwilling to eat.
A special intravenous (IV) solution providing hydration, vitamins, minerals and calories to sustain life. This IV is usually inserted into a large vein in the neck area.
(total parenteral nutrition): A mixture of sugar, minerals, vitamins and proteins given via IV.
Total Parenteral Nutrition. Basic nutritients (carbohydrates, essential fats, proteins, vitamins and trace elements) given intravenously (through a vein), usually via a central venous catheter, that provide enough calories for a patient to survive and grow without any feeding by mouth. This life-saving technique allows a baby with gastroschisis to recieve enough nutrition until he can feed normally (often 3-4 weeks later).
Total Parenteral Nutrition. Nutrition administered through a large vein in the body because of its high concentration of ingredients, including vitamins and minerals. This type of nutritional procedure is complex and expensive, and usually not appropriate for extremely frail or elderly residents.
The procedure in which nutrients are supplied directly to the bloodstream.
Total parenteral nutrition. An intravenous feeding technique that is capable of supplying sufficient nutrients to maintain a person's normal weight and growth over a prolonged period.
Total Parental Nutrition. intravenous (IV) fluids infused through a central venous catheter to provide nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that normally would be received from food. Also called hyperalimentation (HA).
Total Parenteral Nutrition. Same as Hyperalimentation.
The initials stand for "total parentral nutrition." It is ordered when patients are unable to eat regular food and must be given a special nutritional fluid through an IV.
Total Parenteral Nutrition. Intravenous (I.V.) feeding that provides patients with essential nutrients when they are too ill to eat normally.
Total parenteral nutrition. Intravenous feeding involving nutritionally balanced solutions that include proteins, fats, and carbohydrates, delivered into a major vein--usually under the collarbone. TPN can be administered in a hospital setting or through home infusion.
Total Parenteral Nutrition. TPN is typically administered through a large vein in the body because of its high concentration of ingredients. Individuals who are unable to eat or who do not receive enough calories, essential vitamins, and minerals from eating can receive enough nutrients from TPN to maintain their weight. This type of nutrition requires a doctor's order.
TOTAL PARENTAL NUTRITION. A type of nutritional feeding that delivers all nutrients in liquid form through a plastic tube into a vein.
