The analysis of a single variable, for purposes of description (e.g., averages, or the proportion of cases falling into a given category among the entire sample).
studying the distribution of cases of one variable only--for example, studying the ages of welfare recipients but not considering their gender, ethnicity, and so on.
a statistical analysis that considers only one factor or variable at a time. Contrast with multivariate analysis.
