Five destroyers of the United States Navy have been named USS Farragut in honor of David Farragut, an admiral of the United States Navy during the American Civil War.
USS Farragut (DDG-37), named for Admiral David Glasgow Farragut USN (1801-1870), was a Farragut-class guided missile frigate (destroyer leader) laid down as DLG-6 by the Bethlehem Steel Corporation at Quincy in Massachusetts on 3 June 1957, launched on 15 July 1958 by Mrs. H. D. Felt, wife of the Vice Chief of Naval Operations and commissioned on 10 December 1960.
