Founded in 1996, Abuzz was the creator of a knowledge management tool known as Beehive that enabled people to find answers to their questions from people across organisations using email. Beehive evolved into a highly scaleable Internet tool capable of generating dynamic online networks of people. In July 1999, Abuzz was acquired by The New York Times Company to become part of its Internet Division, New York Times Digital. In January 2000, New York Times Digital and Abuzz launched abuzz.com, a knowledge network designed to use the power of the Web to allow members ask questions, give answers and share their knowledge.
