Guerrero is a state in Mexico named in honor of the second president of The Republic, General Vicente Ramón Guerrero Saldaña (10 August 1782 – 14 February 1831), a hero of the Independence War, who was of African and Amerindian descent. General Guerrero was born in Tixtla, later renamed Tixtla de Guerrero. The state is bordered by the states of Michoacán to the west, México, Morelos, and Puebla to the north, Oaxaca to the east, and the Pacific Ocean to the south.
