Holding 19 Knesset seats, the Likud party was reduced to its smallest size in the Knesset ever. Headed by Ariel Sharon, and previously by former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Likud party has focused its attention on the overall security of Israel and Israeli civilians. The principle that unifies this primarily conservative power in Israeli politics is the idea that the territories occupied by Israel in the Six Day War of 1967; Sinai, Gaza Strip, West Bank, and Golan Heights should be included in the State of Israel.
