Madurai (மதுைர in Tamil; ) is a city and a municipal corporation with a population of more than 0.913 million people. It is situated on the banks of River Vaigai in Madurai district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is the third largest city in the state of Tamil Nadu.
