Montgomeryshire, also known as Maldwyn is one of thirteen historic counties and a former administrative county of Wales. It is named after one of William the Conqueror's main counselors, Roger de Montgomerie, who was the 1st Earl of Shrewsbury.
Montgomeryshire is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election.
The Montgomeryshire district was one of three districts of Powys from 1974 - 1996. The district had an identical area to the previous administrative county of Montgomeryshire. Until 1986 the name of the district was Montgomery.
