Definitions for "Opamp"
The term “operational amplifier” originated in the field of analog computers, since these types of amplifiers were used to achieve mathematical operations such as addition and integration. Although “opamps” are now used for a wide range of applications, the original term is still used. The opamp is a high gain DC differential amplifier. Ideally it would have the following characteristics: infinite bandwidth, infinite input impedance, and zero output impedance. However, in practice, it falls somewhat short of these ideals.
