Definitions for "Silent Ischemia"
Episodes of ischemia (oxygen deficiency to some part of the body) that are not accompanied by pain.
Sometimes diseased arteries can't deliver enough blood to the heart; this can occur with no symptoms. An electrocardiogram (EKG; see separate entry), which is a measurement of electrical impulses produced by the heart, may indicate silent ischemia. However, unless a woman knows her risks for heart disease and decides, with the advice of her health care professional, , that she needs a heart check-up, she may never know she has ischemia. Diabetics are especially at risk for this condition.
ischemia not accompanied by chest pain.
