In Etruscan mythology, Turan was the goddess of love and vitality and patroness of the city of Velch. In art, she was usually depicted as a young winged girl. Pigeons and black swans were her sacred animals.

Turan is a town in the Tuva Republic, Russia. Founded in 1885 by Russian settlers from Siberia; town status granted in 1945. The town is located 70 km north-west of Kyzyl, the republic's capital.
Tūrān is the ancient Iranian name for Central Asia, literally meaning "the land of the Tur". According to Shahnameh's account, the nomadic tribes who inhabited these lands, were ruled by Tūr who was the emperor Fereydun's elder son.
