A fault on a floppy or hard disk. Disks are divided into tracks and sectors where a sector is the smallest amount of the disk which can be written to or read from. A bad sector means that the disk surface is defective or damaged at this particular point and the drive cannot read from this part of the disk. There are, however, many sectors on the disk and it may be possible to rectify the problem by using the Windows 95 disk tools, including 'Scandisk'.
A sector of the hard drive that cannot be used due to a physical flaw on the disk.
a part of a hard drive that you can't use because it has some errors
a portion on a hard drive we doesn't appear to reliably record data
a small area on the disc drive that is reporting errors and cannot be accessed properly
A disk sector that cannot be used for data storage, usually because of media damage or imperfections. Finding, marking, and avoiding bad sectors on a disk is one of the many tasks performed by a computer's operating system A disk-formatting utility can also find and mark the bad sectors on a disk.
In the manufacture of hard disk platters, defects occasionally occur in the magnetic medium. These defects will not properly record data. Sectors in which these defects occur are called bad sectors.
Author: ALEX USUALLY CAUSED BY MEDIA DAMAGE OR IMPERFECTIONS, A DISK SECTOR THAT CANNOT BE USED FOR DATA STORAGE. A COMPUTER'S OPERATING SYSTEM WILL AVOID, FIND AND MARK BAD SECTORS. DISK FORMATTING IS ALSO A UTILITY USED TO FIND BAD SECTORS.
Similar to bad block but more precise in the case where a block and a sector may be of differing sizes.
An area on a hard disk or floppy disk that cannot be used to store data, because of a manufacturing defect or accidental damage. One of the tasks an operating system performs is finding, marking, and ... more
Defective areas on a floppy or hard disk. The MS-DOS "Format" command recognizes bad sectors, and "locks them out" so the computer won't try to place any data on those sectors.
Bad Sector is ambient/noise project formed in 1992 in Tuscany, Italy by Massimo Magrini. Genre of Bad Sector could be discussed, though this project is well recognised as industrial and Magrini himself name it as "deeply emotional dark ambient noise" http://www.bad-sector.com/bs/info.html.
A bad sector is a sector on a computer's disk drive that cannot be used due to permanent damage, such as physical damage to the disk particles. It is usually detected by a disk utility software such as CHKDSK or SCANDISK. When found, these programs mark the sectors unusable and the operating system skips them in the future.
