Like chilled, a state of frost-based suspended animation. However, unlike chilled, the creature stops moving altogether. Common sources of freezing are the sorceress spell glacial spike, or the freezing attack of the cold-based Act III companions. Frozen creatures explode on death, just like chilled ones do. Players cannot be frozen, but this change was implemented at the last minute before release, so certain items still refer to chilling as freezing (i.e. "Death's Sash").
