Any one of several species of Manis, Pholidotus, and related genera, found in Africa and Asia. They are covered with imbricated scales, and feed upon ants. Called also scaly ant-eater.

Pangolin founder Patrick Murphy says he is somewhat dismayed at how the name caught on, with customers saying "I've got a Pangolin" instead of "I've got a Lasershow Designer system."

Pangolins (pronounced ) or scaly anteaters are mammals in the order Pholidota. There is only one extant family (Manidae) and one genus (Manis) of pangolins, comprising eight species. (There are also a number of extinct taxa within Pholidota.)
