A type of cell in the pancreas in areas called the islets of Langerhans. Delta cells make somatostatin, a hormone that is believed to control how beta cells make and release insulin, and how alpha cells make and release glucagon.
a type of cell in the pancreas which regulate other pancreatic hormones.
1. Pancreatic islet cell which secretes somatostatin 2. Gonadotrophic cell
Delta cells (δ-cells) are somatostatin producing cells. They can be found in the stomach, intestine and the Islets of Langerhans in the pancreas. In rodents delta-cells are located in the periphery of the islets, in humans the islet architecture is generally less organized and delta-cells are frequently observed inside the islets as well.
