Definitions for "Paran"
A cadential form based upon the bols of pakhawaj.
A major composition-type in the rhythm-music composed for pakhaivaj. It is of many kinds and an ability to extensively elaborate paran is recognized as a criterion for judging a player.
A composition belonging to the kathak and pakhawaj repertoires descriptive of an action, the movements of an animal or the sounds of a natural phenomenon. Many of these were adapted to suit the tabla and provide a structure for rhythmic improvisation, consisting of a passsage and a tihai and are found in the repertoire of gharana-s such as the Banaras.

Paran is a mountain range north of Sinai and south of Seir; all are sacred as places of revelation. Teman lies in northwest Edam, not far from Paran. See Habakuk 3:3. Moses himself uses "Paran" with special reference to Muhammad and "Seir" to Jesus Christ: "And he said, The Lord came from Sinai, rose up from Seir unto them; he shined forth from mount Paran, and he came with ten thousands of saints: from His right hand went a fiery law for them" (Deut. 33:2). Here Moses foretells the coming of three revelations and three prophets after himself, the last being Baha'u'llah. Ishmael (Gen 21:21) founded the Arabian peoples in Paran.
Paran\Faran (פארן) is a small agricultural settlement in Israel . Located on the Arava region in the Negev , about 100 km. north of Eilat It is named for the adjacent wadi, Nahal Paran. Paran was originally founded as a kibbutz in 1971,by a group of young “Nahal”, but was converted into a moshav five years later, in 1976.
