Fifth part of an insect's leg lying between the tibia (4th) and the distal pretarsus (6th) (De Villiers, 1989).
a collective term for the seven bones of the ankle
(pl. tarsi) The most distal major leg segment, immediately beyond the tibia, often divided into tarsal segments.
Posterior part of the foot. This term is used to describe the bones that make up the posterior part of the foot.
A fibrous connective tissue that forms a semi-rigid plate in the eyelid.
region of leg between thigh and toe Back to identifying diagram
Apical section of leg (the foot).
The part of the leg above the hock. It is equivalent to our shin.
The last section of the leg. The tarsi of leafhoppers and planthoppers are divided into three segments with the last one bearing two claws
tarsos = a broad flat frame of wickerwork (for drying cheeses on); supporting plate of fibrous tissue in eyelid; skeletal frame of foot.
the last leg segment; the equivalent of the foot.
(pi., tarsi) the foot; the jointed appendage attached at the apex of the tibia, bearing the claws
Most distal podomere of the insect or acarine limb that bears the claws of an insect, pl. tarsi.
(pl. Tarsi)—The jointed feet of articulate animals, such as Insects. 208
The fifth and end-most section of the leg, which is attached to the tibia and which comprises four or five segments called tarsomeres (Figs. 62A, 63).
( tarsi, pl.): The leg segment beyond the tibia, consisting of one or more jointed "segments" or subdivisions.
(pl. tarsi), the last (fifth) major insect leg segment, itself divided into several small segments
The leg between the foot and first joint.
the insect's foot. The tarsus is a jointed appendage attached to the tibia and often bearing claws and other structures. Typically, the tarsus consists of 1-5 segments or joints which are called tarsomeres. View image
The several-segmented insect foot, just distal to the tibia.
third leg segment, made up of several subsegments.
Greek tarsos = a flat surface; hence the flat part of the foot, and later, the bones of the foot behind the metatarsals, adjective, tarsal.
fibrous plate giving form to the edges of the eyelids
the middle, elongated foot bones of the hind leg.
(pl: tarsi) the last of the five sections of an insects' leg, i.e. "the foot". The tarsus itself is also divided into five parts.
The penultimate part of the insect leg, distad to the tibia and proximad to the tarsal claws. See also leg segments.
lowest segment of leg, before toes
third leg segment, made up of several short segments
The fifth segment of a leg, attached basally to the tibia and subdivided into tarsomeres.
Tarsus or hock joints: The general category for orthopedic diseases of the hocks joints. The details of the disease have been presented on the GDC evaluation form which went to the owner.
(tar'sus) [Gr. tarsos, a broad, flat surface]. (pl. tarsi) 1. The ankle with its seven bones located between bones of the lower leg and metatarsus. It forms the proximal portion of the foot. It consists of the following bones: calcaneus (os calcis), talus (astragalus), cuboid (os cuboideum), navicular (scaphoid), and first, second, and third cuneiform bones. The talus articulates with the tibia and fibula, the cuboid and cuneiform bones with the metatarsals.
(plural: tarsi ( tar-see): the "foot" of an insect consisting of from 1 to 5 segments attached to the tibia.
This includes the three segments and a claw on the end of the leg. Together, these form the foot.
Part of the leg between the knee and the foot.
Fifth segment of a leg that basally articulates to the tibia and normally consists of three to five subsegments. [drawing
the ankle, including proximal and distal tarsal and the metatarsals.
The 'foot' of the insect: primitively a single segment but now usually divided up into several sub-segments.
a curved plate of dense white fibrous tissue forming supporting structure of the eyelid
Shank or that portion that extends between the toes and the hock.
The tarsus (plural tarsi) is the last segment of a butterfly's (or a moth's) leg. The tarsus has gripping claws and has taste organs, so the insect can grip a flower and determine if it contains a sweet nectar to drink.
the seven bones composing the articulation between the foot and leg, including the talus, calcaneus, navicular bone, cuboid bone, and medial, intermediate, and lateral cuneiform bones.
Tarsus – also Tarsos (Greek: ); Antiochia on the Cydnus and Juliopolis – is a city in Cilicia, present day Mersin Province, Turkey, located on the mouth of the Tarsus Çay (Cydnus) which empties into the Mediterranean Sea. The population is 216,382 (2000 census).
In tetrapods, the tarsi are the cluster of bones in the foot between the tibia and fibula and the metatarsus. The bones of the tarsus do not belong to individual toes, whereas those of the metatarsus do. The joint between the tibia and fibula and the tarsus is called the ankle.
The tarsi (tarsal plates) are two thin, elongated plates of dense connective tissue, about 2.5 cm. in length; one is placed in each eyelid, and contributes to its form and support.
