Frame Check Sequence. An encoded value appended to each frame by a transmitting station to allow transmission errors to be detected by the receiving station. Implemented as a 32-bit cyclic redundancy check (CRC) code.
A checking code used to provide error control information in data communications.
Frame Check Sequence: Any mathematical formula which derives a numeric value based on the bit pattern of a transmitted block of information and uses that value at the receiving end to determine the existence of any transmission errors.

frame check sequence. Refers to the extra characters added to a frame for error control purposes. Used in HDLC, Frame Relay, and other data link layer protocols.
Abbreviation for frame check sequence. An error-detection scheme that (a) uses parity bits generated by polynomial encoding of digital signals, (b) appends those parity bits to a digital signal, and (c) uses decoding algorithms that detect errors in the received digital signal.
Frame check sequence. A calculation that is added to a frame for error control purposes. It is used in HDLC, Frame Relay, and other data-link layer protocols.
