General medical services are services provided by family doctors (GPs) and their staff, as provided for in Section 29 of the 1997 Act, and framed in the General Medical Services Regulations 1992.
Despite many different contracting arrangements that have been and are being introduced for general medical service in the UK, General Practitioners (GPs) are, in principle, independent contractors with the government.
