A single or multi-part mark on an American spoon indicating its manufacturer. It does not indicate the date or the silver content.
The proprietary mark of the individual silversmith. It ensures a responsible party for the standard mark.
A goldsmith's signature or logo. General: Manufacturer's mark.
The distinguishing mark of the individual silversmith.
Adopted for silver in 1363, the early marks were simple signs or symbols, as only few people could read at the time. In the late 17th century initials (of the maker's first and last name) and symbols were combined. Symbols were no longer used during the next 100 years. On Britannia standard wares the first two letters of the last name are used instead. The sovereign's head, used between 1784 and 1890 (and in Dublin from 1807), indicated that duty had been paid on the item.
Maker's Mark is a hand crafted small batch type of bourbon whisky distilled in Loretto, Kentucky.
