A question designed to help the interviewee give a lengthy response as opposed to a brief answer.
Questions, which encourage the respondent to provide their own answers.
Questions that invite a non-specified response, eg. 'How would you describe your experience of the application process?'
An open-ended question allows a respondent to answer in whatever way he or she chooses, using his or her own words. Unlike closed questions, open-ended questions do not contain prompts for specific responses from interviewees.
Questions that allow an individual to respond freely in his or her own words.
Questions that a student answers by writing, solving problems or working on projects
Survey questions that allow respondents to answer in their own words. (All in-depth interviews use open-ended questions.)
Questions that cannot be answered with a "yes" or a "no", generally begin with the words, what, how or why and usually encourage a prospect or customer to expand on a response ... as a result, open-ended questions usually help the salesperson learn much more about the prospect or customer than a close-ended question.
