Deal or No Deal is a television game show format owned by Endemol, a Netherlands-based production company known for creating such shows as Big Brother and Fear Factor. The first version of the show was broadcast in the Netherlands as Miljoenenjacht, followed by an Australian version, which was the first version with the Deal or No Deal name.
Deal or No Deal is a game show which airs in Australia on the Seven Network and in New Zealand on Prime. It was the first international version of the gameshow, with the exception of the original Dutch version. In 2006 Deal or No Deal several changes were made to entice viewers in response to Nine's new afternoon game show Bert's Family Feud hosted by Bert Newton.
In Spain, Deal or No Deal is called "Allá tú" and airs on Telecinco. The show is hosted by Jesús Vázquez (Arturo Valls was the host during the summer of 2005 allowing Jesús to focus on the reality show "Operación Triunfo"). The top prize in the early shows was 300,000€, but that changed to 600,000€ when they introduced a phone/SMS game in which someone at home can win 50% of what the studio contestant gets, so really, the contestant at the studio has still a maximun prize of 300,000€.
Deal or No Deal is broadcast on the Israel 10 channel in Israel. It is hosted by Moran Atias, a model, actress and winner of Miss Israel. The top prize is 1.5 million NIS (US$358,000).
Deal or No Deal is broadcast in Germany by broadcaster Sat.1.
Deal/No Deal is the Danish version of Deal or No Deal, which is currently airing its first season on TV 2. It is hosted by comedian and TV personality Casper Christensen. The top prize is DKK 2,000,000 (about US$330,000, €270,000, or GB£180,000) the lowest one DKK 1 (about 17 US cents, €0.13, or £0.09).
Deal or No Deal is broadcast in Chile by Canal 13 and hosted by Don Francisco. This version has 400 participants on the show, and it follows a sort-of similar format to the Netherlands' Miljoenenjacht. Players can win from as little as 1 Chilean peso (less than 1 US cent, 1 European cent, or 1 British penny) to as big as 120,000,000 Chilean pesos (about US$220,000, €171,000, or £112,000).
Deal or No Deal is produced in Hong Kong by TVB. It has been casting through its website and its magazine, and premiered on October 29, 2006 at 9:30pm. It is hosted by Michael Hui and airs on TVB Jade.
Deal or No Deal (officially Postcodeloterij Deal or No Deal?) is a Dutch version of Deal or No Deal. The show is similar to Miljoenenjacht, the original version of Deal or No Deal, however it does not have any of the extra quiz rounds that Miljoenenjacht has, so this direct version contains the familiar format first used in the Australian version and then around the world. Deal or No Deal is sponsored by the Dutch National Postcode Lottery and is shown on Talpa (Tien), as is its parent programme.
In 2007, M-Net South African laumched a version of Deal or No Deal. The show premiered on February 4, 2007, and airs every Sunday at 18:00. South Africa is only be the second country in Africa to get its own version of the show, after Tunisia.
This year, Malaysia will launch its own version of Deal or No Deal for ntv7. The smallest prize is presumed to be 1 cent, while the top prize will be 100,000 Malaysian ringgits, which equals about US$28,500, €21,900, £14,700, and ¥3,400,000. The English-language version of the show is set to air on Saturdays in primetime.
