Any decorated, movable platform for carrying Carnival maskers. In some cases, particularly among newer, less affluent or smaller krewes, floats are used in more than one parade.
Globular, sometimes spherical, pieces designed to float on water. Commercial net floats from Japan and Chihuly's Niijima Floats may be best known. The former seem to fall in two groups at about 4-6" and about 12". The latter are about 18-21". See aquarium.
Warp float: a length of warp yarn on the surface of a woven fabric which passes over two or more weft threads; weft float: a length of weft yarn on the surface of a woven fabric which passes over two or more warp threads.
