Definitions for "Genlocking"
The process of synchronization to another video signal. It is required in computer capture of video to synchronize the digitizing process with the scanning parameters of the video signal.
The process of aligning the data rate of a video image with that of a digital device to digitise the image and enter it into computer memory. The machine that performs this function is known as a genlock.
Synchronizing with another video signal serving as a master timing source. The master timing source can be a composite video signal, a video signal with no active video (only sync information), or, for video studio, a device called house sync. When there is no master sync available, VideoFramer, for example, can be set to "free run" (or "stand-alone") mode, so that it becomes the master timing device to which other devices sync.
