Lanark is a small town in the central belt of Scotland, the county town of the former county of Lanarkshire. It has a long history, old traditions, and some fine parks and buildings. Lanark has railway and coach stations, with frequent services to Glasgow.
Lanark, subtitled A Life in Four Books, was the first novel of Scottish writer Alasdair Gray, and is still his best known. Written over a period of almost thirty years, it combines realist and dystopian fantasy depictions of his home town of Glasgow.
