Laboratory tests from a blood specimen that give information about liver function. For example: bilirubin, SGOT, SGPT, GGT, Alkaline phosphatase
Liver function tests are blood tests used to assess the general state of the liver. They can indicate the presence of damage or inflammation. When liver cells are injured, certain enzymes that are normally found in liver cells may leak out and find their way to the blood. Mutation: is a change in a gene. The HFE gene is the gene thatcontrols iron absorption. If the HFE gene is defective as a result of a mutation it can lead to Haemochromatosis.
Tests evaluating the functioning of the liver.
Laboratory analysis of blood levels of substances produced by the liver. High levels may indicate liver dysfunction.
Also known as liver blood tests, they can show evidence of conditions affecting the normal functioning of the liver, gallbladder or bile ducts.
Tests that are performed to monitor the functioning of the liver. Levels of specific compounds that can be measured in the blood can help determine if a patient has a liver disorder and monitor side effects from treatment to the liver. Combinations of specific compounds (AST, ALT, albumin, etc.) are typically measured together to help provide a clearer indication of the disorder.
Blood tests to see how well the liver is working.
This refers to the measurement of a number of enzymes in the blood which, if elevated, infer liver inflammation. Despite the name, liver function tests do not measure true function of the liver.
tests done to detect damage to the liver
blood tests that indicate how well the liver is working.
Blood tests to measure the function of the liver. These are blood tests that are ordered regularly by liver doctors. They give an indication of how well the liver is working and help sort out the type of problem that may be present. They are done daily immediately following transplantation. Abnormalities can indicate rejection, infection, side effects from drugs and many other things. Experience is required to determine what the results mean. Abnormal results do not necessarily imply that a serious problem is present.
ALT, AST, SGOT, SGPT are simple blood tests...
Tests that measure the level of various liver enzymes in the blood. Elevated liver enzymes may indicate liver damage. Specific LFTs are bilirubin, AST, ALT, LDH, and alkaline phosphatase.
the most commonly used way to check for liver problems; these blood tests look for chemicals in the body that are produced when the liver does its various jobs
Refers to a group of blood tests used to evaluate the function of the liver. The tests can be used to diagnose and monitor chronic viral hepatitis as well as other liver diseases. The two most common tests include the following liver enzymes: Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST): An enzyme that is released into the blood by the liver and other tissues or organs. It is generally used as a marker for liver or biliary damage. Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT): An enzyme that is released into the blood by damaged liver cell. It is used as a marker for liver cell damage. The ALT test is considered to be a more accurate reflection of liver inflammation than AST because other organs such as the heart can also produce AST. (e.g. the level of AST will increase on a blood test during a heart attack). ALT levels are included in the regular monitoring of all chronic hepatitis B patients; this test can also useful in deciding whether a patient would benefit from therapy or evaluating the effectiveness of an ongoing treatment.
Tests that measure liver enzymes in the blood. When the liver is diseased or damaged, liver-specific enzymes (such AST/ALT) spill into the blood. Elevated levels of these enzymes in the blood are associated with liver damage.
lab tests performed on a blood specimen that gives information about liver function, for example, bilirubin and transaminases.
A group of blood tests used to assess the functioning of the liver. Doctors use these tests to look for or monitor liver diseases. See ALT and AST.

Liver function tests (LFTs or LFs), which include liver enzymes, are groups of clinical biochemistry laboratory blood assays designed to give information about the state of a patient's liver. Most liver diseases cause only mild symptoms initially, while it is vital that these diseases be detected early. Hepatic involvement in some diseases can be of crucial importance.
