made up of two parts, the pinna, the part you can see on the side of your head, and the ear canal – the passage sound travels along to the middle ear. The pinna helps to collect sounds and direct them along the ear canal. The canal is about 2.5cm or 1 inch long and lined with skin. Near to the outside the canal has hairs and glands that produce wax that keep it clean and help prevent infection. The hairs, called cilia move the wax outwards and that is why wax comes out of the ear.
The auricle and the ear canal. Here, sound is collected and directed inwards. (See Auricle and Ear Canal).
the part of the ear visible externally
the part of the ear you can see and the ear canal.
(pinna) - visible part of the ear which is made of skin and cartilage.
The outer most portion of the ear encompassing the pinna and ear canal. Back to the Audiology Clinic main page
external portion of the ear, consisting of the pinna, or auricle, and the ear canal.
The anatomical portion of the hearing system that includes the pinna (the visible "ear" on the outside of the head), the ear canal, and the eardrum (tympanic membrane).
the external portion of the ear which collects sound waves and directs them into the ear. It consists of the pinna (auricle) and the ear canal and is separated from the middle ear by the eardrum.
the part of the ear that captures sound; it is composed of the visible parts of the ear and the canal leading to the eardrum
The most peripheral aspect of the human auditory system that includes the auricle (pinna) and external auditory meatus (ear canal).
There are three sections of the ear: the outer ear, the middle ear, and the inner ear. The outer ear looks complicated but it is functionally the simplest part of the ear. It consists of the pinna or auricle (the visible projecting portion of the ear), the external acoustic meatus (the outside opening to the ear canal), and the external ear canal that leads to the ear drum. In sum, there is the pinna, the meatus and the canal. That's all. The outer ear concentrates air vibrations on the ear drum and makes the drum vibrate. The outer ear is also called the external ear. See the entire definition of Outer ear
Also known as the auricle or pinna; includes the ear flap and the ear canal; Gathers and enhances sound and channels it to the middle ear. Problems in this part of the ear may include wax buildup in the canal, a foreign object in the ear canal or outer ea
The external ear and auditory canal, whose purpose is to funnel sound waves towards the inner ear. See also inner ear, middle ear.
The outer ear is the external portion of the ear.
