An initiative, led by the Internet Engineering Task Force's Public-Key Infrastructure Exchange (PKIX) subcommittee, addressing interoperability and cross-certification among certificate authorities.

Public-Key Infrastructure ( X.509). A working group of the Internet Engineering Task Force ( IETF) that is developing Internet standards needed to support a PKI based on X.509 certificates. For more information, see PKIX Charter.
PKI s are currently evolving, but there is no single agreed-upon standard that ensures interoperability. The working group within the IETF responsible for developing the standards necessary to support an X.509-based PKI.
