Definitions for "SEPARATISTS"
English believers following the Reformation who became dissatisfied with the doctrines and practices of the established Church (Anglican). They included the Puritans, Baptists, and other congregational groups.
Groups that withdrew from the established church in England. Two of these groups were called Pilgrims (who settled in Plymouth) and the Puritans (who founded Massachusetts Bay Colony).
A strict Puritan sect of the 16th and 17th centuries that preferred to separate from the Church of England rather than reform. Many of those who first settled America were separatists.
