A substance, which is not a corrosive, but which causes a reversible inflammatory effect on living tissue by chemical action at the sight of contact as a function of concentration and duration of exposure
A substance that causes inflammation in some organs such as; eyes, lungs, etc. jack rafter A rafter that is shorter than the main rafters.
capable of irritating or inflaming the skin, eyes or respiratory system, eg causing dermatitis.
Key to the formation of pearls, an irritant is any intruder such as a parasite or particle that gets inside a mollusk’s shell. The mollusk produces a secretion known as conchiolin to soothe the irritant. Another substance known as nacre is secreted over the conchilin. Layer after layer of nacre surrounds the irritant and eventually produces what we know as a pearl.
a material causing irritation, especially physical irritation.
A substance that causes a reversible inflammatory response.
A substance that triggers asthma symptoms by irritating the airway when breathed in. Examples include cigarette smoke, fumes from a harsh cleaning fluid, or strong perfume. ( Allergens are a different type of asthma trigger, which cause symptoms through an allergic reaction rather than by irritation.)
Substance capable of causing a reversible or irreversible inflammatory effect on living tissue by chemical action at the site of contact as a function of concentration or duration of exposure.| Search | Help | Comments | Home
something that causes irritation and annoyance; "he's a thorn in my flesh"
a chemical that can cause inflammation of the vein through which it is given
a material that causes inflammation to a part of the body
an agent which can cause cell damage if applied in sufficient concentration and for a long enough period
An irritant is something which causes inflammation, soreness, roughness, or irritability of a body part.
Not corrosive, but causes a reversible inflammatory effect on living tissue by chemical action at the contact point. Severity depends upon concentration and exposure duration.
Substance or material that produces irritation or inflammation of the skin.
Something that causes increased symptoms or limits airflow.
Causes activity on skin surface
Substance that may provoke a bad reaction in the airways.
some sort of aggravation of whatever tissue the material comes in contact with.
A substance that produces inflammation when it makes contacts with the skin, eyes, nose, or respiratory system
An agent that produces chafing, soreness, or inflammation, especially to the skin.
means a substance that will produce local irritation or inflammation on contact with tissues and membranes, such as skin or eyes, or that will, after inhalation, produce local irritation or inflammation of nasal or lung tissue.
Inflames skin temporarily.
This term refers to an agent that causes irritation or inflammation of the skin.
A substance that can cause irritation of the skin, eyes, or respiratory system. An irritant can cause an acute effect from a single high-level exposure, or chronic effects from repeated, low-level exposures. Some examples of irritants are chlorine, nitric acid, and various pesticides. isotope: A variation of an element that has the same atomic number of protons but a different weight because of the number of neutrons. Various isotopes of the same element may have different radioactive behaviors, some are highly unstable. J/K
Any substance which causes swelling of the respiratory system. An irritant may trigger asthma or symptoms, but they may not be considered an allergen. Examples of irritants include tobacco smoke, chemicals, pesticides, or air pollution.
A substance that produces an irritating effect when it contacts skin, eyes, nose, or respiratory system.
A substance which can cause an inflammatory response or reaction of the eye, skin or respiratory system.
can hurt the eye, skin, or lungs directly on contact.
A harsh external substance or climate that damages the skin.
The mother of pearl, or other substance, implanted into oysters in order to produce pearls.
A chemical substance or mixture (not a corrosive) which on immediate, prolonged, or repeated contact with normal living tissues induces a local inflammatory response in the skin, eyes, or mucous membranes.
any type of ingredient that causes an undesirable short-term result
Causes irritation. Laxative Mild aperient to evacuate the bowel. Mucilaginous Moist or sticky.
substance that is not an allergen (see allergen) but can cause a reaction in the airways or damage the lungs.
A substance which, with sufficient contact, will cause reversible inflammation of the eye, skin, or respiratory system.
Any substance which causes inflammation or an adverse reaction on the skin or in the body. An irritant may trigger asthma or allergy symptoms, but they may not be considered an allergen. Examples of irritants include tobacco smoke, chemical fumes, insecticides or air pollution.
Chemical substances that cause tissue inflammation or soreness upon absorption, inhalation, or ingestion.
A material that will cause an inflammatory response or reaction of the eyes, skin or respiratory system.
agent that may produce inflammation if exposure is sufficient.
A substance that produces an irritating effect when in contact with the skin, eyes, nose or respiratory system.
chemical which may cause reversible inflammation on contact.
A chemical, which is not corrosive, that causes a reversible inflammatory effect on living tissue by chemical action at the site of contact. J K L
Any ingredient that causes temporary discomfort, such as itching, burning, stinging or sneezing. Unlike an allergic reaction, irritation is quick: it occurs as soon as an irritant is put on the skin and stops as soon as it's removed.
A substance which consistently and predictably will produce an undesired response in the skin of virtually all of the population. The degree of response is quite variable, and depends on the relative strength of the material applied, the duration of the exposure, and many factors related to the original condition of the skin to which the material is applied. This is distinct from an allergen, which can affect only selected individuals.
Affects immune system and reactivity due to its ability to cause inflammation. See Counterirritant.
Substance causing asthma attacks.
A substance that causes irritation of the skin, eyes, or respiratory system. Effects may be acute from a single high-level exposure, or chronic from repeated low-level exposures to such compounds as chlorine, nitrogen dioxide, and nitric acid.
The bead nucleus, tissue implant, or other substance, implanted into mollusks in order to produce pearls.
something that causes irritation or inflammation
A substance that consistently and predictably produces an adverse response (such as reddening, swelling, itching, burning, or blistering) in virtually all of the population. Irritants are not to be confused with allergens.
A material with an anesthetic, irritating, noxious, toxic or other similar property that can cause extreme annoyance or discomfort. A noncorrosive material that causes a reversible inflammatory effect on living tissue by chemical action at the site of contact as a function of concentration or duration of exposure.
