A stationary phase is a substance that shows different affinities for different components in a sample mixture in a separation of the mixture by chromatography. The mobile phase (a solution containing the sample) flows over or through the stationary phase to effect the separation.
The phase of microbial behavior where bacterial population growth reaches maximum carrying capacity, and growth begins to slow and eventually cease.
a solid or immobilized liquid used in chromatography that has some interaction with an analyte in a mobile phase, and so can partition the analyte between phases. Common stationary phase materials for gas chromatography include polysiloxanes and polyethylene glycol (PEG or Carbowax). Stationary phase polarity is an important component affecting capacity factors and selectivity factors.
The period in culture after the log phase of growth when cell division ceases.
The particulate material packed inside the column. Also, the bonded phase that is part of the column packing.
