Definitions for "Phase "
A particular appearance or state in a regularly recurring cycle of changes with respect to quantity of illumination or form of enlightened disk; as, the phases of the moon or planets. See Illust. under Moon.
Any one point or portion in a recurring series of changes, as in the changes of motion of one of the particles constituting a wave or vibration; one portion of a series of such changes, in distinction from a contrasted portion, as the portion on one side of a position of equilibrium, in contrast with that on the opposite side.
The relation at any instant of a periodically varying electric magnitude, as electro-motive force, a current, etc., to its initial value as expressed in factorial parts of the complete cycle. It is usually expressed in angular measure, the cycle beb four right angles, or 360°. Such periodic variations are generally well represented by sine curves; and phase relations are shown by the relative positions of the crests and hollows of such curves. Magnitudes which have the same phase are said to be in phase.

In the Willey and Phillips scheme, a phase is a distinctive cultural entity represented by specific sites or levels within sites, similar to other definitions of a focus. In the Midwestern Taxonomic System of McKern, a phase is a larger unit composed of several aspects, which can be broken down into even more foci (Cassells 1997:337).
Keywords:  stage, iii, mythos, anagogic, cascon

(Phase 4 of the model is post-hostilities with the conflict continuing, Phase 5 is post-hostilities with only the dispute continuing, and Phase S is settlement, with the dispute terminated. Phases 4, 5 and S are shown in the Precis and the Case Detail screens but are not coded.

In most game systems, each game turn is made up of several steps, often known as Phases. All actions in one step must be completed before the next Phase can begin, and the Phases must be played strictly in the order listed. For instance, a very simple game turn might be divided into these phases: Move Phase, Fire Phase, and Morale Phase. A Phase may be divided into parts as well, sometimes known as Sub-Phases.
A group of homesites or lots within a community. Most home builders sell all homes within a current phase before moving on to the next phase of release in the community. The benefit to the homebuyer is that construction activity is focused in one small area. When you move into your home most of the construction for neighboring homes will already be completed.
A group of lots within a community. Most homebuilders sell all the lots within the current phase before moving on to the next phase of the community. The benefit to the homebuyer is that construction activity is focused in one small area at a time. So when you move in to your new home, most of the construction for neighboring homes will already be complete. Builders "release" a new phase when the current phase is almost sold out. This means that there is now a completely new selection of lots, which are available for purchase.

Single-phase transformers can be used on a three-phase source when two wires of the three-phase system are connected to the primary of the single-phase transformer. The secondary will be single-phase.

Keywords:  pdr, concept, checkout, cdr, shorthand
NASA uses this shorthand to describe where a mission is in the pipeline. "Phase A" is called "concept study". This generally means that a mission has been selected for further study in a competition (often in response to an AO [see above]); this generally results in a "Phase A study", which is essentially a more detailed proposal. Once a mission is selected for flight, it enters "Phase B" which is "definition and preliminary design", which ends with a preliminary design review (PDR). "Phase C" or "detailed design" terminates with a critical design review (CDR), and "Phase D" is "development through launch and checkout", which usually terminates approximately 30 days after launch. "Phase E" is "operations and data analysis".

Color phases occur also in other animals, notably in butterflies.

Phase III studies usually test the new drug in comparison with the standard therapy currently being used for the disease in question. The results of these trials usually provide the information that is included in the package insert and labeling.
