Continuous beam on top of supporting walls, usually constructed of concrete and often being reinforced with steel rods. This supplies lateral support as well as distributing concentrated vertical loads along the wall.
A course or courses of a masonry wall grouted and usually rein forced in the horizontal direction serving as an integral beam in the wall. May serve as a horozontal tie, bearing course for structural members, or as a flexural member itself.
(1) The grouted course or courses of masonry units reinforced with longitudinal bars and designed to take the longitudinal flexural and tensile forces that may be induced in a masonry wall. (2) A horizontal grouted element within masonry in which reinforcement is embedded.
