The time at which nestlings that are reared in a nest leave the nest, even though their flight abilities may not yet be well developed. Sometimes describes the time at which a young bird has finished development of a complete set of flight feathers, when it is able to fly.
This means acquiring the feathers necessary for flight. The process is completed at about three months of age in cranes.
