The thickness of the layer or body of pigment applied by the painter to his canvas with especial reference to the juxtaposition of different colors and tints in forming a harmonious whole.
A style of painting characterized by paint applied so thickly that brush and/knife strokes can be seen; Thick paint applied to a surface in a heavy manner.
A technique where thick, expressive, layers of paint are applied to the SUPPORT. When the paint stands up in lumps leaving clearly evident BRUSH STROKES it is said to be "heavily impasted."
