(IVF): A method of artificial reproduction in which the man's sperm and the woman's egg (oocyte) are combined in a laboratory dish, where fertilization occurs. The resulting embryo is then transferred to the uterus to develop naturally. Usually, two to four embryos are transferred with each cycle.
fertilization of the egg outside the body
a treatment for infertility in which an egg and a sperm are joined outside the woman's body, and the fertilized egg is then inserted into the uterus or fallopian tube
a treatment for infertility when the fallopian tubes are blocked but the ovaries are functioning. A woman's ovaries are hormonally caused to make several eggs. The eggs are surgically removed, fertilized with sperm in the laboratory and then implanted into the woman's prepared uterus.
IVF, a procedure that involves removing eggs from a woman's ovaries and fertilizing them outside her body. The resulting embryos are then transferred back into the woman's uterus through the cervix. ( More? Week 1 Notes)
Fertilization of an ovum outside the mother's body. (460)
Combination of an egg and a sperm outside of the mother's body to create an embryo.
An infertility treatment that includes ovarian stimulation, egg retrieval and sperm collection. Eggs and sperm are then placed together in the laboratory, therefore, fertilization takes place outside of the woman's body. Resulting embryos are later transferred to her uterus.
Fertilization by mixing eggs and sperm in a laboratory test tube or petri dish. Abbreviated as "IVF."
The process by which eggs and sperm are combined in an artificial environment outside the body, then transferred back into a woman's uterus to grow
Assisted reproductive technology involving stimulation of multiple follicular development with drugs such as gonadotrophins. Mature oocytes obtained following stimulation are retrieved from the ovary and immediately mixed with the partner's sperm or with donor sperm. To enable cell division, the fertilized oocytes are then placed in a protected environment for 24 to 48 hours. The embryos obtained are subsequently replaced in the patient's uterus where they may implant. It is now common practice not to replace more than three embryos. Additional embryos can be frozen for future implantation.
Medical proceedure where a woman's eggs are removed from her body and fertilized by a males' sperm in a laboratory. Typically, the woman is given medication prior to retrieval that allows her to produce several mature eggs and all of the eggs are fertilized by sperm in a laboratory at the same point in time.
Eggs produced by administering fertility drugs are retrieved from a woman's body and fertilized by sperm in a laboratory. The resulting embryos are transferred by catheter to the uterus.
fertilization outside the body ("in vitro" is Latin for "in a glass").
a highly successful IVF and Egg Donation clinic, dedicated to compassionate patient care
This is a method of assisted reproduction that involves combining an egg with a sperm in a laboratory dish. If the egg fertilizes and begins to divide, the resulting embryo is transferred back into the woman's uterus where it will hopefully implant and develop. IVF may be performed in conjunction with medications that stimulate the ovaries to produce many eggs in order to increase the chances of successful fertilization and implantation. IVF bypasses the fallopian tubes and is often the treatment needed by women whose tubes are surgically removed or tied.
A complex process in which eggs are retrieved from the woman's ovaries and mixed with sperm in a dish in the laboratory. “In vitro” is a Latin term literally meaning “in glass,” even though the fertilization takes place in a dish.
fertilization occurring outside of the body, usually in a petri dish or test tube.
Fertilization of an egg outside of the body, followed by placement of the fertilized egg into the uterus
A procedure in which an egg is removed from a woman's ovary, fertilized in a dish in a laboratory with a man's sperm, and then reintroduced into the woman's uterus to achieve a pregnancy.
A procedure in which eggs are removed from a woman's body and fertilized. After the embryos have reached the blastocyst stage of development, they are introduced into the woman's uterus. Fertility drugs and hormone treatments are normally used in conjunction with in vitro fertilization.
The most common ART procedure, it is used to circumvent a variety of fertility problems. This procedure involves the injection of a stimulant to develop multiple follicles. Once the eggs are mature, they are retrieved from the ovaries and transferred to a laboratory dish. At this time, they are fertilized by sperm from the male partner and developing embryos are inserted back into the uterus.
Literally "fertilization in glass," IVF comprises several basic steps: the woman is given fertility drugs that stimulate her ovaries to produce a number of mature eggs; at the proper time, the eggs are retrieved by suction through a needle that has been inserted into her ovaries; the eggs are fertilized in a glass petri dish, or in a test tube, in the laboratory with her partner's or donor sperm, and subsequently the embryos are transferred into the body.
A method of assisted reproduction that involves combining an egg with sperm in a laboratory dish. If the egg fertilizes and begins cell division, the resulting embryo is transferred into the woman's uterus where it will hopefully implant in the uterine lining and further develop. IVF may be performed in conjunction with medications that stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple eggs in order to increase the chances of successful fertilization and implantation. IVF bypasses the fallopian tubes and is often the treatment choice for women who have badly damaged or absent tubes. l J l l N l l Q l l l X l Y l
