is an abbreviation for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and is useful when trying to refer to a wider range of sexual orientation in society. It is being used more and more, and signals inclusion.
LGBT (or GLBT) is an initialism used as a collective term to refer to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender people. It is an adaptation of the initialism LGB. While still controversial (see Controversy below), it is considered less controversial than the terms queer or lesbigay and is more comprehensive than homosexual or simply gay.
