Long Island is one of a number of small, forested islands of the Hawkesbury River. It is situated about 50km north of Sydney, across Sandbrook Inlet from Brooklyn, Others include Dangar Island, Spectacle Island, Milson Island, Peat Island and Lion Island. The area has been inhabited for thousands of years by the Guringai people, who left their mark on the land with hundreds of rock engravings, stone sharpening sites, cave paintings and shellfish middens.
Long Island is an island in Lake Superior in Wisconsin usually identified with the Apostle Islands. It is geologically different from the other islands, though, in that it is actually just an extension of the spit off of Chequamegon Point. It is a part of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.
