A hormone secreted by the pituitary gland that stimulates the secretion of sex hormones in both men and women.
a gonadotrophin made by the pituitary gland that stimulates the release of oestrogen from the ovaries, causing ovulation and corpus luteum formation
A hormone that contributes to sexual development of children. In women, together with follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), LH controls ovulation and is essential for a normal menstrual cycle and for fertility. In men, LH and FSH stimulate the testes to produce sperm
A pituitary gonadotrophic hormone, which stimulates ovulation to take place. In the male it is responsible for the release of testosterone from the testes.
a hormone produced by the pituitary gland. It plays a role in the initial production of egg cells by the ovary.
A hormone produced along with FSH to stimulate egg production in the ovaries.
A hormone secreted by the anterior lobe of the pituitary. Its main function is to mature and release the egg (LH surge).
A hormone produced by the pituitary which function is to mature and trigger the release of the egg at ovulation. Male factor When the cause of infertility is attributed to poor sperm quality.
A hormone produced by the pituitary gland that initiates ovulation and then stimulates the corpus luteum to produce progesterone. Often abbreviated to LH.
A hormone produced by the pituitary gland. In men, LH stimulates the secretion of testosterone from the Leydig cells of the testes. In women it stimulates the release of oestrogen from the ovaries.
Hormone secreted by a gland called the pituitary gland, that stimulates ovulation in females and the production of androgens in males.
hormone produced by the pituitary which stimulates the corpus luteum to produce progesterone. Released from day fourteen to day twenty eight in the normal cycle.
A hormone from the pituitary gland that stimulates ovulation and the development of the corpus luteum.
A hormone produced by the pituitary gland in the brain and acts on the testes to produce the principle male hormone, testosterone.
The naturally occurring hormone which prompts ovulation and the development of the corpus luteum. Find out more...
(LH) The hormone, or gonadotropin, produced by the pituitary gland to cause, in women, ovulation of a mature follicle in the ovary, resulting in formation of the corpus luteum; in men, stimulates the production of testosterone by the Leydig cells of the testis. Suppressed by GnRH-agonists and GnRH-antagonists, so that (for ovulation induction) an injection of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), which acts the same way, has a predictable time course of action. A small amount of LH is essential for normal function of the tertiary follicle and the corpus luteum. Recombinant LH is under development by Serono as Luveris, but its clinical role in place of hCG is not yet established. See also: LH surge See also: serum LH
A hormone secreted by the anterior pituitary gland, responsible for stimulating ovulation in the female and testosterone production in the male.
